Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
